7 tips to stay motivated during a diet

1. Set a realistic goal

A good goal must be smart, that is, simple (example: I want to lose weight), measurable (in kilos, height), ambitious (to be motivating), realistic (to be achievable) and time-bound (you set a date, not the Greek calendars). For example: "I want to lose 3 kilos before summer to look the same as last year" or "I'm getting married in two months, I want to fit into my wedding dress.




2. Forget the scale

Weighing ourselves daily is not a good plan. If you have eaten too much salt, drunk a lot of water, are in the premenstrual period or are subject to water retention, the weight can vary from 1 to 2 kilos from one day to the next. The best way to do this is to weigh yourself once a week, at the same time of day, naked and fasting, ignoring decimals and focusing only on the trend over several weeks. Moreover, weight is not always a reliable indicator. You can lose weight without losing weight, because muscle weighs more than fat.


3. Reward yourself at every step of the way

Congratulating yourself is so important! On his notebook, we list the personal attentions to be offered to each obstacle surpassed, like so many medals: a perfumed tea, a massage, a garment... And, at each step reached (1 kg lost, one week without cracking, 30 minutes of jogging without stopping...), we offer ourselves a little pleasure and we enjoy.


4. Allow yourself to deviate

You can lose weight by having a square of chocolate or a restaurant from time to time. In this case, we indulge ourselves and do not feel guilty. To straighten the bar, it is taken into account in the balance of the meal or by reducing the fat and starch content of the next meal.


5. Lose weight for yourself

If you want to lose weight to please your partner, because it's fashionable or because you want to follow girlfriends, you don't realize your own desires and you gradually give up. You have to ask yourself if you really want to lose weight and why: taking the time to wonder about your deep motivations (being prettier, improving your health parameters, being more comfortable moving...) is the basis of a successful diet.


6. Encourage each other in writing

From the beginning of the diet, we note on small brightly coloured papers the sentences that give courage: "You'll get there", "You're great", "Confronted with the rock, the stream always prevails[...] by perseverance"... We put them in a jar and pull one out every time we feel we're giving up.


7. Surrounding yourself well

You keep your loved ones (family, spouse, friends, colleagues...) in the loop, so that they don't undermine your efforts by offering a box of chocolates or a couscous at the local bistro. We can also team up with a good friend or her lover who needs to lose weight. And ideally, we are accompanied by an online coach, a doctor, a dietician...
